Tips for an Effective Daily Gratitude Practice
♥
By now it’s clear that adopting an effective daily gratitude practice is essential to living a joyful life. Here are a few tips I can offer:
1. Go for quality vs. quantity. For gratitude to really make a positive impact on our daily energy, we have to feel the experience not just think about it or write it down. So pick one or two things and let the feelings generated by the grateful thoughts wash over your whole body & heart. I’m not saying don’t write it down, I’m saying take the time to feel each experience you’re grateful for. Put your heart & soul in it.
2. There’s no right time to do your gratitude practice, however it does help to have a routine or ritual. Some say morning some say night. I believe the right time is when you, yourself tend to have energy slumps throughout the day or when you typically have free time.
3. Sometimes it’s hard to think of things to be grateful for on command. Consider the following positive experiences to trigger thoughts of gratitude: Comfort, relief, joy, pleasure, relaxation, laughter, growth & expansion.
4. It’s absolutely ok to repeat certain gratitude thoughts all the time. They are the little miracles present in your life that you’re blessed to experience everyday: a hug from your children, a beautiful flower, a good night’s rest, your health, your wealth, your relationships, etc
5. Get creative on how you trigger your thoughts of gratitude. It really feels a bit unnatural to start with “I’m grateful for…” Replace with
“I love my…”, or “I’m happy because…”, of “God/Universe, thank you for…”
6. Make it known to others as much as you’re comfortable with sharing. The joy that comes from sharing appreciation out loud is tremendous because it encompasses elements of courage & vulnerability.
